Prioritizing Soul Care Over Self-Care: Finding Spiritual Fulfillment

What public figure do you disagree with the most?

I disagree with this new focus on self. I never realized how much the media pushed us to focus on ourselves until I started to get closer to God. Don’t get me wrong, there is nothing wrong with loving yourself. However, I feel that the focus is so much on self that when someone does the smallest thing to you, your response is to cut them off or cancel them. I feel that we sometimes love ourself so much that we forget about God. I was driving one day and I heard this mascara commercial come on the radio and at the end of the commercial she said “worship yourself.” I believe that we get so caught up in self that we can’t even see others the way God intended us to see. My friends would always say they admired the fact that I can cut a guy off in an instant when he messed up in a relationship. I felt that was my super power at the time because I was the prize and I felt right in every situation. But God gives us grace, so why is it that we can’t give that same grace to others. This doesn’t mean compromise your boundaries, but allow the space for grace. When we die to our flesh and live in Christ, we start to love differently. We learn to love ourselves in a healthy manner because soul care is better than self care.

I like to get my nails and hair done, that’s something I did when I felt stressed. It’s like I replaced God with spending money to feel better. So when I couldn’t afford to do these things it felt like my life was crashing. Put God first and he will show you how to love yourself and the people around you. So I challenge you to practice soul care and look and see what is it that you’ve been running to in order to feel better instead of God.

Happy Friday!
