Finding Contentment: Letting Go of Material Desires for Spiritual Growth

Daily writing prompt
What personal belongings do you hold most dear?

When I read this question, I truly could not think of one thing. I was truly thinking hard and got nothing. Before, I might’ve said my phone because I would be endlessly scrolling everyday, or my computer because I was a gamer. But, once I started my walk with God, I cut off the world. I deactivated all my socials, deleted all my games, and just started to focus on God. I’m not saying those things are bad, but for me they were because I used them to fill this empty void that only God can fill.

The enemy sometimes uses the things you enjoy to distract you from the plan God has for you. He does this because if he can keep you distracted long enough, before you know it, you’ve let life and opportunities pass you. Also, when you are distracted, you can’t hear God’s voice. Anything can become bad if it is not done in moderation.

I am no longer a slave to the material things of this world. I have everything I need and if I don’t have it I don’t need it. I am content. This doesn’t mean I don’t have wants, but I don’t allow these wants to become idolized in my life.

On the other hand, I was never given anything significant that meant anything from anyone in my family. As I am typing this I thought about the little purple bear I have on my keychain. At the time I was going through a custody battle and couldn’t physically be with my child I held that bear in hopes that everything would work out. And it did.

God is amazing. It’s my winning season. The only thing that is near and dear in my heart is His word. Because in it is life. It’s time to walk in my purpose and discover who I truly am. I’m ready to become the version of myself that God sees when He looks at me. I don’t fully understand what my role in ministry will be, but I surrender and I am ready to allow the Holy Spirit to guide me into it.

Happy Thursday!!

It’s your winning season!!!

Everything attached to us wins!!!
